Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, with Cyber Monday following on November 30. That gives you about five weeks from today. It sounds like plenty of time, but the stores that win the biggest shopping weekend of the year usually started preparing in October.
The good news is that you don’t need a huge team or budget to have a strong Black Friday. You need a store that loads fast, an offer people actually want, a plan for getting it in front of them and a checkout that doesn’t break under pressure. This checklist walks you through all of it, week by week.
Key Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2026 dates
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Thursday, November 26 | Thanksgiving in the US. Many brands start their sale this evening. |
| Friday, November 27 | Black Friday |
| Saturday and Sunday, November 28 and 29 | Small Business Saturday and the weekend sale |
| Monday, November 30 | Cyber Monday |
| Early December | Last chance offers and holiday gift shopping begin |
Five weeks out: plan your offer
Your offer is the single biggest factor in how your sale performs. Before you touch your store or your ads, decide exactly what you’re selling and why someone should buy now.
- Pick your offer type. A straight percentage off, a free gift with purchase, a bundle deal, tiered discounts (“spend more, save more”) or free shipping. Choose what works for your margins, not just what everyone else is doing.
- Check your margins. Work out your real profit per order after discounts, shipping, payment fees and ad costs. A sale that brings in lots of orders but loses money on each one isn’t a win.
- Choose your hero products. Pick a handful of best sellers to lead your campaign. People respond better to a clear, focused offer than to a store where everything is slightly discounted.
- Check your stock. Make sure you have enough of your hero products and talk to suppliers now about lead times.
Four weeks out: get your store ready
Your website needs to handle more visitors than usual and turn as many of them as possible into customers. Even small problems get magnified when traffic spikes.
Speed and mobile experience
Most Black Friday shopping happens on phones, often in short bursts. Test your homepage, top collection pages and best selling product pages on a real phone. Compress large images, remove apps you no longer use and avoid heavy video or slider sections at the top of the page.
Product pages
Make sure your hero products have strong photos, clear benefit led descriptions, reviews and obvious shipping and returns information. If you want a deeper list of improvements, our guide on how to increase your Shopify conversion rate covers 15 practical fixes you can make before the sale.
Homepage and navigation
Plan a Black Friday version of your homepage with a clear headline, your main offer and direct links to the products on sale. Add a sale collection to your main menu so shoppers can find deals in one tap.
Checkout
- Turn on express payment options like Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
- Allow guest checkout.
- Test your discount codes and automatic discounts carefully, including how they combine.
- Place a few real test orders from start to finish.
Shipping
Set clear shipping cut off dates for holiday delivery and show them on your site. Shopify recommends adding accurate product and package dimensions so the shipping rates customers see at checkout match the boxes you actually send. If you sell internationally, review your shipping rates for each market too.
Three weeks out: build your audience
The stores with the best Black Friday results usually have people waiting for the sale before it starts.
- Grow your email and SMS list. Offer early access to the sale in exchange for a sign up. “Get first access to our Black Friday deals” is a simple, effective message.
- Warm up your social audience. Post teasers, behind the scenes content and countdowns so people know something is coming.
- Prepare your ad creative. Create images and short videos for your offer now, so you’re not rushing on the day.
Two weeks out: set up your ads and emails
Paid ads
Ad costs usually rise sharply during Black Friday week because so many brands compete for the same audience. Building awareness earlier and saving your budget for retargeting people who already know you is often more profitable than trying to win cold traffic on the day itself.
Not sure where to spend? Our comparison of Meta Ads vs Google Ads explains which platform suits which kind of business. In short, Meta is great for discovery and retargeting, while Google captures people who are already searching for what you sell.
- Check that conversion tracking is working on both platforms.
- Build retargeting audiences from website visitors, video viewers and past customers.
- Plan your budget for each phase: teaser, launch, weekend and Cyber Monday.
Email and SMS
Write and schedule your campaign in advance. A simple sequence might include an early access announcement, a launch email, a weekend reminder, a Cyber Monday email and a “last chance” message. Set up your abandoned checkout emails too, because cart abandonment rises when people are comparing deals across many stores.
One week out: test everything
- Preview your sale homepage, banners and product pages on mobile and desktop.
- Test every discount code and automatic offer.
- Click every link in your emails.
- Check that your sale collection only shows in stock products.
- Make sure your team knows who handles customer service, orders and stock updates.
- Prepare quick answers for common questions about shipping times, returns and order changes.

Sale weekend: monitor and adjust
Once the sale is live, keep a close eye on your store and your numbers. Check orders, stock levels and ad performance a few times a day. If one product sells out, update your ads and homepage quickly so you don’t pay for clicks to items people can’t buy. If an offer or ad is performing well, put more budget behind it.
After Cyber Monday: keep the momentum
Black Friday doesn’t end on Monday night. The weeks that follow are a great time to turn new customers into repeat buyers.
- Send a thank you email with useful product tips.
- Follow up for reviews once orders arrive.
- Promote gift guides and last shipping dates for the holidays.
- Review your results: what sold best, which channels brought the most profitable customers and what you’ll change next year.
Common Black Friday mistakes to avoid
- Discounting so deeply that every order loses money
- Launching ads without checking conversion tracking
- Making big changes to your store theme the week of the sale
- Running out of stock on your best sellers
- Hiding shipping costs and delivery dates until checkout
- Forgetting to switch off sale banners and codes when the sale ends

Frequently asked questions
When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday 2026 is on Friday, November 27, the day after US Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday is on Monday, November 30.
When should I start preparing for Black Friday?
Ideally six to eight weeks before. If you’re starting later, focus on your offer, your best selling product pages, your checkout and your email list first, because those make the biggest difference.
Should I make changes to my Shopify theme before Black Friday?
Make design and speed improvements early, then freeze big changes in the final week. Last minute theme edits are a common cause of broken pages during the sale.
Is it worth running ads on Black Friday?
Yes, but costs are higher than usual. Many brands get better results by building their audience earlier and focusing Black Friday budget on retargeting and past customers.
